This is Where I Run

I've been trying to run often...that sometimes get's hard with being on call at the hospital - but I do the best I can :)

In The Studio...

I had to move my 'studio' to the floor for this one piece. Can you tell what it is?

I have to be on 'super-cat-patrol' when working on the floor; Oreo just keeps trying to either drink the paint water, or walk / sit on the wet painting.

Abstract Ripples

I have begun working on this oil painting again that I had started probably over a year ago. Back then I had reached a 'block' in the progression of the piece, and where I wanted to go with it.

I was looking at it the other day and thought, maybe I should add some white outlines to it and see if that goes anywhere, and so far I think it's heading in a decent direction :)

Cubism + Lilies...

..and unlikely match? Maybe not so much:

This is for an online challenge that I'm doing where we are supposed to combine the concept of Cubism and lilies. The sketch is confusing - doesn't look too bad, but some petals are supposed to be coming forward, and other back in not-so-natural ways. I need to keep track of these for when I eventually get to colouring the picture.

I know cubism is often presented a little more 'square' with more straight edges than what I have here, but I wanted to sort of twist the approach so that it's more modern, and to best represent the lily flower.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to create a finished piece for this challenge, not just this sketch. There's a lot more that needs to be added to the drawing first before I get to that point though.

My Creative Space

The first step after getting all my pastels last week was to *gulp* snap off ~1/3rd of the pastel, and organize them a little. Working with the complete large sticks is not the most practical thing. It's easier to handle smaller pieces, and when they're smaller you can use the sides to blocks in large areas and lightly shade.

Sort of looks nice still - a rainbow of pastels! They aren't "perfectly" placed, but the more I work with them the better organized by hue / saturation they will be. Next, was to paint some sort of picture with them!! I choose to do one of the challenges from wetcanvas.com using a supplied photo from a member there.

I probably should have stopped working the petals at
this point, and just added the freckles and other details.
But...I didn't....

And then it's done....

I do think this piece is a little overworked...but it is my first piece with the mount visions, and working with softer pastels is so different than working with those super hard NuPastels. It's looks like a flower, so in the end = winner, hehe.

Cuddling With Oreo

Oreo is usually not one to cuddle. He's a "stand-alone" sort of creature.

...but sometimes I manage to catch him at a weak moment :)
