Snowflake Keepsake Watercolour Painting

It has been blustering cold these past few weeks where I live, and the snow has not stopped at all. I've been home numerous days due to roads being closed and poor driving conditions. Last week, the days I did end up going to work, my drives have been almost twice as long due to all the snow. It is scary sometimes, driving and not seeing even the hood of your vehicle. It just sneaks up sometimes too - where it will be nice at work, and nice at home, but somewhere in middle it's not. I go slow, and make it home :)

But once I'm home, and I look out - the snow is beautiful. And I do love being cozy inside drinking copious amounts of tea while the snow falls - or, being out in the snow trudging through it with my snowshoes. It has got to be one of the best outdoor, winter workouts. Especially if you have to break the path yourself!
"Snowflake Keepsake" - Original watercolour painting

It is no surprise then that I painted this Mason Jar winter painting. "Snowflake Keepsake" brings together those huge, fluffy snowflakes that I love so much, together with the Mason jar motif that I have really been feeling this winter (and that has shown up in other art work as well).

This painting came together so much better than I could have imagined, and I'm so excited to share it with all of you :)

Snowed In Last Week

The weather outside was quite frightful last week, and I didn't make it into work two days because the roads we completely whiteout. Now what we got in snow is nothing compared to what some the cities in the U.S. got. But the rain came on the weekend, and melted it all away.

On my days off, I worked on all the commissions that I have. Sometimes though, my mind needs a 'creative break' to wander off and create something else. Above is the beginnings of a painting that I hope to share with you all later this week :)

You can also see my new laptop up in the picture - yes, it was a sad day, my little Dell died without warning. After running it to the nearest computer store in a panic to pull everything off it's hard drive (and they did very successfully), we ventured in search of a new computer. After some discussion, I decided to switch over to Apple, and purchased a MacBook Pro. My cell phone is due for it's 'free replacement', now actually, and I was looking at iPhones - so this will just tie it all together.

It's been a huge learning curve - mostly with printer colour profiles, something I've never really had to do before, but now that things are running more smoothly, I am liking it more. It's also all shiny and new, and who doesn't like that in technology? :)

Winter Song Watercolour Painting

https://www.etsy.com/listing/212844406/original-painting-winter-song-watercolor

Today I'm sharing with you a new painting that I added to the store. I know a couple days ago I shared with you an autumn painting, and it felt more appropriate with all the snow to share some winter paintings as well :)
"Winter Song'
"Winter Song" is a cute little piece about how despite the cold weather, the birds keep merrily chirping away! I gave them all little scarves in this piece to help keep them warm. Their 'song' are little pieces of music paper collaged on - it gives the piece a lot more interest, and even a little dimension.

Gentle Snow Winter Watercolour Painting

"Gentle Snow" - Watercolour Painting
A new painting here to share with everyone :) "Gentle Snow" came to me one morning, while I was watching the snow fall outside. It was those gorgeous, huge flakes that fall slowly - just so pretty. The contrast of those large white flakes, against the rich evergreens in our backyard was definitely something to record in watercolour.

I apologize for the 'ugly' trademark on my upper image. I usually don't trademark the images, and just post them as a lower resolution - but I've recently has issues with people using my images without permission to create and sell products - so the trademark will be one step I'm taking to try and protect my artwork.

The original painting is available for sale, here. For those who have never shopped on Etsy before, you can get $5.00 off your order for signing up, here.

Snowy Evening Watercolour Painting

Today I'm sharing with you my most recent watercolour painting, "Snowy Evening". I was inspired by the way the snow looks at night, illuminating the sky as all the lights on the street try to peak through the cold haze.

I really wanted to combine vibrant colours to create a winter themed painting. Too often, they are just cooler colours, such as blues, green and neutrals. By approaching it a little differently, I could appropriately incorporate a rainbow of colours, while still giving the sense of winter and also the sense of warm coziness.

Above is out lilac tree, which I used as reference for the tree portion of the painting - branches overly draped with fluffy snow.

This painting is available in my online shop. Happy day!

Winter Frolic Watercolour Painting

"Winter Frolic" - Original Watercolour Painting
Today I'm sharing with you all a recent painting I finished in watercolour. It's called, "Winter Frolic", and I got inspired to paint this with all the massive amounts of snow we have had. As impairing as all the snow can be, causing roads closures and such, you can't help but notice how beautiful it is - especially once you're all cuddled up and warm inside :)

I usually find myself more drawn to painting spring / summer trees, as the colours are just so vibrant. But this recent downfall of snow has covered everything with a lovely twinkling blanket. When I used to live in the city, this glitterious cover (yes, I just made up that word!) would soon turn brown, mucky and gross from all the traffic and snow clearing. But in my new small little town, it stays looking clean days after and gave me time to become inspired by it!
